160320 Palm Sunday Teaching Part 2

What did that take? In JCOP, pp. 99-280 recount the last two weeks of Jesus's life on earth. [The event of the thirteenth and fourteenth of Nisan are documented in more detail that any other two days in the entire Word of God. This alone should demonstrate to us the vital necessity of rightly dividing these records with minute accuracy. if God thought these two days important enough to merit such full reporting, then surely we can consider them important enough to merit our careful scrutiny. Jesus Christ Our Passover, Dr. V.P. Wierwille, American Christian Press, 1980, p. 281] After a full day, Monday night was the Last supper, which included a lot of teachings. 1. Walk to Garden for prayer - Apostles exhausted. 2. Soldiers come, fall back, healing 3. Before Annas - some beatings 4. Peter's first three denials. and cock crows. 5. Before Caiapas with Sanhedrin, beaten and mocked 6. Death sentence and more torture 7. Peter's second three denials, cock crows again, this time Jesus sees. 8. Dawn, taken to Pilate, beaten again 9. Do you enjoy your righteousness when you are sick? Remember, sickness is a curse! Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Why do we talk about these horrible things? Because nothing comes for free! [I received a 'free' hat.] Everything cost somebody something, and valuable things cost a lot! Not one bone was broken, but every other injury was inflicted. He was marred beyond human recognition so that we can be healed. 1 Corinthians 11:23-30 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. The New Birth is a gift, a valuable gift that came with a high price. Don't waste it by accepting sickness and weakness. Recognize that you have been forgiven through the shed blood! Recognize that you have been healed! All that torture that went on for a day and a half covered all the sickness and injury you will ever have! Allow yourself to be healed! Allow yourself to be blessed by God, because Jesus paid it all.

160321 Palm Sunday Teaching Part 1

Most Christians are rather familiar with the meaning of the shed blood. They understand forgiveness of sins, and some even know how remission differentiates from forgiveness, but few give a thought to the broken body. What is the broken body? Why is the broken body important? What do we learn by studying the broken body? Do you believe that the Bible is the revealed Word and Will of God? Does God mean what He says? Malachi 3:6 (6) For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. [When the Corinthian church was manifesting sickness, division, and strife, Paul did not applaud them for their sickness. He did not say, "it is a sign of God's love that your are sick." Nor did Paul say, "ear your sickness patiently, for God is trying you." The Apostle Paul, according to the epistle to the Corinthians, rebuked them and endeavored to correct them for being sick. He rebuked them not as individuals but as a congregation. as Christians, because they did not properly discern the Lord's body. They did not realize that Jesus, who was sacrificed on the cross of Calvary, had accomplished something for them in his body. Paul pointed out that it was no longer necessary to suffer sickness and disease. Bible Tells Me So, Dr. V.P. Wierwille, American Christian Press, 1999, pp. 86,87] Ill health is a curse according to Deuteronomy 28:15,22,27,28,35,60,61. This was the law administration. We live in the Grace administration, and have been redeemed from the WHOLE Curse. Galatians 3:13 (13) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Psalms 105:37 (37) He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. How does that happen? How do 2.5 millions servants become well at the same time? Are we servants of God or His children? Do you treat the people who work for you better than you do your children? If you are sick or feeble or somehow not getting what God has promised, then ask yourself, Why? Is it God's fault, or is it on your end? In the Passover, and in the Last Supper, God told people to do two things: Blood and Body. [explain] If God can heal 2.5 million people in one day, can He heal the nine of us right here and right now? Matthew 8:17 (17) That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. JC took our sicknesses. We don't own them anymore! 1 Corinthians 5:7 (7) Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us: The lamb of Passover was a shadow of things to come, a shadow of reality. Christ was far, far more valuable than a little lamb. Romans 5:13 (13) (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. The word 'imputed' is used twice. ἐλλογέω ellogeō el-log-eh'-o From G1722 and G3056 (in the sense of account); to reckon in, that is, attribute: - impute, put on account. The second man, Jesus Christ, resisted the Devil and maintained his sinless state. He always did the Father's will, and thus became the perfect Passover Lamb. He was more perfect than any animal could ever be. Then, by his free will, he suffered and endured ALL the consequences for the sin of Adam.

169398 Dealing With A Teen

Let's just say, nothing happens in a vacuum, and options were considered. My daughter is moving to VA for a few months. Gas prices are down, but Bus/Train/Plane prices are up for Spring Break! It looks to be much less expensive to drive there and back than to send her one-way alone on the least expensive public transportation. My elder daughter wants to go with us. That's good, because I did not look forward to driving back alone. I'm planning my meals now, which will entail bringing my own butter and coconut oil to add to hot water while driving. Also, I have some dehydrated, organic foods that will fit the diet. My SIL is on the Bulletproof, so while there, eating will be no problem. My girls have their own money, and can buy their own food when I stop for gasoline and hot water. When driving like this, I do well with Polyphasic sleep. I fall into what this article calls the "Everyman Cycle". I sleep for two to four hours, then take several short naps as needed. It keeps me alert while driving, and I don't have to down mass quantities of coffee. On this schedule, I can drive those four days without drinking any coffee at all! Every time I've tried the Uberman version, I just revert to the Everyman. In fact, the Everyman cycle was called "Insomnia" by my doctor, but as long as I can get the naps, I feel fine and healthy! Before I go, I'm going to start some more celery in the camper. When I get back, I should be able to plant it in pots to leave outside.

160210 Oils Specific to My Needs

If you know me, you know that I dislike chemical medications. Instead, I use essential oils, and have been happy with their properties. What follows is a list of the specific oils I use daily in my own life. Research you own conditions to discover what methods work best for your medical needs. In no way, nor in any fashion should this be construed to medical advise.

1. Diabetes - After an attack of pancreatitis in 2010, I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. I consulted a doctor, who told me that I can avoid Metformin if my blood glucose readings remained between 80 and 100. This reading was to be taken as soon after waking as possible. Between diet and these Young Living Essential Oils, bg has remained within range. I take four drops of each with meals, three times per day. Every diabetic is different and will respond differently! I found through trial and error that these oils work for me.
   1. Clove
   2. Fennel
   3. Ocotea
2. Despite strict adherence to calorie counting and exercise within the framework of TOPS, I kept gaining weight after the incident in 2010. Smelling one of the following oils as needed helps to curb cravings. It's not a magic bullet, but usually helps my resolve just enough to stay on the diet.
   1. Black Pepper
   2. Ginger
   3. Grapefruit
   4. Spearmint
3. Cataracts are starting to develop, so I put a drop of Frankincense around my eye-sockets three times per day. 
4. Hypertension. All my life, I've had low-average blood pressure. It was amazingly consistent until several years ago, when the other medical problems started to present themselves. For high blood pressure, I place a drop or two of Ylang-Ylang over my heart, and another drop in the center of my left foot, which is the Vita Flex point for the heart.
5. Cedar Fever brought a terrible ear infection this year. I lost my hearing and suffered great pain. The doctor prescribed antibiotics, ear drops, Flonase, Albuterol, and Prednisone, but they did not end the infection. I diluted Basil Essential Oil 1:3 with sesame oil and put three drops of the mixture behind my ear and down my jaw line. My hearing has greatly improved. The Basil makes me feel better. Peppermint and Wintergreen help me to breathe without all the chemicals.

This is just curiosity. What do you read for free, and what would you pay to read? We all read, and most of us do some kind of writing, because what good is a blog if you don't put your fingers to the keyboard once in awhile?

For instance, I read a lot of non-fiction. I have found that my taste for fiction waned after I started having children almost twenty-five years ago. I watch videos of movies and old TV shows to get fiction, then read magazine articles, blog posts, and non-fiction books. Currently, most of my non-fiction is science, politics, or political science. My fiction is mostly science fiction or suspense. (Fantasy usually gets lumped with science fiction, but I prefer the sciency stuff.)

I pay for books (non-fiction).
I pay for magazines (non-fiction)
I pay for videos (fiction).

I do not pay for blog posts.
I do not pay for YouTube, nor any other online service. I simply view their free stuff.

Communist Manifesto - a Leading College Read

I read it when I was 16, but it was one of several texts that confirmed for me that Socialism and Communism were unworkable. I remember thinking, "It sounds like a nice idea, but human nature would prevent it from ever working." Years later, while studying the Word of God, I realized that Marx had given a secular version of Acts 2:42-46. Without the benefit of an underlying set of godly values and love for one another, "sharing" becomes a vehicle ripe for abuse and control because giving is no longer a free will choice under socialism. As much as some people dislike Christianity, and as much as some churches assert, the Bible says sharing is a choice: 

2 Corinthians 9:7
(7) Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity...

For more than forty years, I have opposed Communism. In 1975, I started learning Russian in order to see into their national thought and to study their history. I have met and talked with several immigrants and defectors. Because of this, I taught my children to dissect Progressive slogans. Freedom seems like a no-brainer for me, but far too many who already have freedom want to throw it away for a seemingly nice idea that won't work.

160201 Reasons to Use Essential Oils

A testimonial like this encourages me to continue using the oils. Yes, she takes and has taken a lot of oils at once, but when a person is really, really sick, the oils are needed. God tells His people to study and then to teach what they have learned. Studying has its rewards. Peace comes from knowing of the value that God places on us, in understanding from where strife originates, and in the realization of the power available to those who believe. Belief is not just admitting that there is a God. Belief is also in knowing what God will do, and in knowing how to operate the power which He gives us.

1 John 5:4-5

(4) For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

(5) Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

This particular word appears twice in the Gospels, twice in Romans, and six times in the epistle of 1 John. It appears three times in the two consecutive verses I just quoted! Then, it appears seventeen times in Revelation to show how Christ Jesus has defeated The Enemy.

Of interest to this study, however, it this word that appears only once. A word used once should get our attention. Why did God choose to use this noun here? Only once does νίκη (nike) appear, and it is nestled among the only time that the verb form νικάω (nikeo) is used three times in such a short space. Does God want us to know that Our God is stronger than anything the World has to throw at us?

People use words haphazardly. Americans especially like to dismiss the meanings of words until someone latches onto to some innocent word or phrase to imbue it with hidden trigger meanings, which may have nothing to do with the actual meaning of any word. God, however, uses words precisely. Like signing a check or a receipt, He magnified His Word above His Name: Psalms 138:2. His Word is more precious than wealth: Psalm 19:9-11; Psalm 119:162; Psalm 12:6. If God is perfect, the Word He gave must be perfect, because He guarantees it. God had people record it; people are fallible, so it is up to us, individually, to search out that perfection for ourselves, 2 Timothy 2:15; Proverbs 24:2.

Wouldn't you like to know how to have victory? Would you like to be a super-conqueror? (Romans 8:37) Would you like to have the peace of God? (Philippians 4:7) Or the confidence of God? (Mark 11:22-24)

Take a word, and study it with a Lexicon and Concordance. Work in fifteen minute segments, but do at least one segment per day. Who can't carve out fifteen minutes among the one thousand four hundred and forty each of us has every day? God will honor your efforts, and will send help.

The APA wanted to make belief in an unseen God a psychiatric disorder, but were forced to amend that. Too many of us know better. Don't ever fear the future. God is already there, and has us covered. That's why every Christian can believe that we have overcome. It's not about skin color, the shape of one's nose, nor political beliefs. It's whether we believe what God says about us.

160127 Pro-Choice and Pro-Life

I taught my children the Word of God, and that they should think for themselves. Although it was a surprise, it was perfectly in character for my daughter to slap a Gary Johnson sticker on the back of her car in 2012. Since Gary announced his candidacy recently, I expect to see another one on her second car. If my younger daughter had a car, she'd probably put something like, "When you speak, I always here 'Punch me in the face,' but it's usually subtext." She's wordy like that, and hates politics.

Why do some people assume that because Person A supports Option A, that it automatically puts Person A into Catagory C? All my life, this kind of muddled thinking has frustrated me. Since the 1980s, which was the last time any idiot shot an abortionist, someone has tried to tell me how stupid I was to support the Pro-Life cause. The person(s) telling me this just assumed that I was going to go out and shoot an abortion doctor because I happen to confess Jesus as Lord in my life.

• First of all, labels are lazy shortcuts that let people get angry without thinking.
• Second, every person has to determine in his or her own heart and mind whether to believe anything. Smart people avoid blanket statements.
• Third, very few people, even among Christians, actually know what the Bible says about most subjects. Even if they can quote something, most forsake context and the most basic principles of research.
• Fourth, it behooves the Christian to study and to follow those who have worked even more diligently to unlock what God said. God did not give His Word in English, so we each need to learn Aramaic and study Classical Greek to find out what God really said.

Abortion is a complicated subject, but the loudest people reduce it to slogans and support politicians who agree with the slogans. Slogans circumvent thinking. That's why I hate labels. Forget labels and think about the words themselves. Everyone should be pro-life, because we all have a right to live. We should all be pro-choice, even if the choices of others disagree with the choices we ourselves would make. (For instance, while I agree with many Libertarian ideals, I will not be voting for Gary Johnson.)

Just because I am pro-life does not mean that I disagree with the death penalty, as more than one commenter has touted. Some people have proven their inability to judge between right and wrong. The Bible trumpets forgiveness, but also supports the death penalty in certain cases. Just because I am pro-choice doesn't mean that I agree with getting an abortion. Abortion is heart-breaking, and the costs verses the benefits should be weighed very carefully. This is an individual decision, not a legislative one.

Do you know what a "spontanious abortion" is? It is, or it used to be, a medical term for a miscarriage. A spontanious abortion occurs when a woman's own body detects that a fetus is not viable. This happened to me four times. I wanted those children, but my body refused. The Bible says that children are blessings. Some people just don't want to be blessed. Those are their choices. They don't have to be blessed. We'll all be much happier if we just let people make their own choices and deal with their own consequences instead of trying to make 'moral' laws. Legislatively forcing morality may in itself be immoral. That also goes for the environmental issues that some view as moral, but that's another story.

160126 Dearth

Once I decided to write more, I wrote less. I added someone to my Live Journal that I regret. I could just delete her from my feed, but then I'd be doing what I dislike about what others do when they hear diverse opinions. I guess it's the haughty, "I'm right, and you're stupid" attitude she exudes. She's right because it feels evolved, and not so stuck in the mud of human history. We humans recycle this attitude every eighty years or so, and my 90 year old father does like to point out the American similarities to certain German attitudes of the early 20th Century. In this case, the common enemy has become vocal Christians who actually read their Bibles.

People with partial knowledge attack the Bible. It has become quite vogue to point out what is not included and what contradicts. They don't know how we got the Septuagint, nor why certain writings were included and others excluded. Most churches and denominations place more importance on their own interpretations and commentaries than on the actual Biblical texts, and it makes for a confusing, humanistic argument. All the books of the Bible were physically written by a human hand, but God was the Author. Either one believes, or he disbelieves. If one does not believe God, then the Bible is flawed. If one does believe God, however, then the Bible reveals God. The supposed flaws were attempts by the Adversary to discredit God. The closer one looks at the Bible as it was originally written, the more one sees that God had a hand in making it as perfect as possible in a world run by the free will of man.

The world will not continue as it has. We are due for a major shift in how life is conducted on this planet. It won't be towards the Star Trek Utopia that so many adore. People don't change. They endlessly repeat the mistakes of the past. The names change, the settings change, but the results continue to be the same. Civilizations rise and fall, while people sift through the same recycled ideas that lead to the same risings and fallings of previous civilizations. That's why I read Proverbs. People still respond to the same stimuli and behave as they did five thousand years ago.

160115 Consented to Chemicals

About midnight, pain was a 10, and my daughter, who doesn't have a driver's license, almost tried to drive my 6-speed to the ER while I whimpered in a fetal position. I kept asking for ten minutes until we both fell into fitful sleep. When I woke, the pain was down to dull ache, so I thought I was through the worst of it.

At noon, the pain meter started to rise again, so I took myself to the clinic. As usual, the medical people frowned and asked me how I was tolerating this, and prescribed a lot of med. I have massive infections in both ears, all my sinus' are totally blocked with infectious crud, and one eye is diseased. Also, the creeping crud is attempting to make a foot hold in my lungs. While I was paying the bill, my right eardrum burst, so they dragged me back to the examination room to clean that, too. At least the pain quit, even if once again, I have to see a person's lips to know what he or she is saying.

They worked with me on the drugs, so it didn't take my life savings. After one set of doses, however, I remembered what really bothers me about Albuteral, and that I have to continually remind myself why Predisone is so very bad for me, because steroids make everything OK. (Reading warning labels NOW!) I find it funny that opiates make me paranoid and receive my undying hatred, but steroids make me feel really, really good. (I am, in fact, indulging in a little gluten right now, because Predisone keeps its horrible reactions away.) Tomorrow, I will be getting some drops for the infections in my eye and ears. I'm supposed to pick up over-the-counter Flonase, which I hate, so I'll pass. I cannot take showers until my ear heals, but I can breathe steam when I make tea. That will take care of most of what Flonase is supposed to do.

I'll be drinking lots of fluids, including Jewish Penicillin. The doctor thought this started as Cedar Fever. "Cedar Fever" is actually an allergy to the pollen from Mountain Cedar. Pollination started a few weeks ago and will continue through March. I moved into the worst place possible for Cedar Fever. It will develop into an infectious disease when the immune system is shocked or weakened. Driving 3000 miles with little sleep and emotional stress qualifies as a system shock. Next year, I shall prepare myself for this Hill Country gem.

160111 Joy and Happiness

Joy in Your World

What's bringing you the most happiness in your life right now? Why is it such a good thing for you? Has it been present a long time, or is it a recent addition to your world?

Right this moment, it is hard to determine, since happiness is situational. For the first time in five years, I am fighting a cold. When I started with essential oils, certain illnesses became a thing of the past, but even these oils can't stand against a sick child who wants to rub her germs on my face. :(

On the other hand, the joy of the Lord is my strength. As I remember those things for which I am thankful, it does bring a smile to my face. My elder child is surviving adulthood. She takes care of herself more and more, and has graduated college without debt. She also has a job. The younger one, who brought me the current respiratory distress, will turn 18 this year and plans to move out of the camper ASAP. As much as I love her, I love to see her claim responsibility for her own life.

This nomadic lifestyle suits me. It sounds like the opposite of what many have proclaimed for decades, but less stuff makes the brain work better. Stuff requires care. At first, I wondered if I would miss certain things, but as I do without, I wonder why I thought I needed stuff in the first place. Yep. Doing more with less makes me happy.

160110 NO Condemnation

Romans 8:1-4
(1) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
(2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
(3) For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
(4) That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Quoting the Word is not condemnation, it is simply restating what the rules are. Human nature, which is not from God, may make iy seem that way, and the recipient may take it that way from hidden guilt, but quoting the Word is not condemnation. God merely wants everyone to be saved.

1 Timothy 2:3-4
(3) For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
(4) Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Therefore, anyone who feels oppressed by someone quoting the Word, that oppression is not coming from God, and the person quoting may only have the recipient's best interests in mind. The only thing tricky about this comes from our Adversary, the devil, who walks about seeking whom he may devour. God doesn't trick people. He has no darkness at all.

Remember, no one can make you angry without your permission.

160109 Oily Thoughts

Since 2010, I've been using Young Living Essential Oils, and believe them to be of the most consistently high quality. After I became a distributor, I signed up for Essential Rewards. This qualified me to receive 'gifts' of oils. I have amassed quite a few of them, so did some research on possible uses, which I'm sharing now.

Oils to use, because they were free, or I bought too much of them:

Acceptance (blend):

Acceptance stimulates the mind, compelling us to open and accept new things, people, or relationships in life, allowing one to reach a higher potential. It also helps us to overcome procrastination and denial. 

(Use for low blood glucose, or when feeling pressured.)

Forgiveness (blend):

This blend helps to release hurt feelings and negative emotions. It also helps release negative memories, allowing one to move past emotional barriers and attain higher awareness, assisting the person to forgive and let go. 

(Use when upset or during high blood pressure events.)

Eucalyptus Blue

Supports respiratory function to promote normal breathing, relieves sore muscles, calming, invigorating, expectorant, diaphragmatic, insecticidal, oestrogenic, anti-fungal, antiviral, antibacterial. 

(Diffuse against Agent Em's cold.)

160108 Having Individual Thoughts

It doesn't matter if I agree with Ayn Rand, the new Star Wars franchise, or an actor whose face I don't know. What's disturbing is that these social media affectionados believe that opinions need to line up with theirs or else be censored. Also disturbing is how many young people express that the Bill of Rights should be altered to exclude certain of those rights. Statistics and documentation may be available to some, but right now, I simply want to express opinions that have been formed over decades of observation, contemplation and meditation.

Our country was founded on laws and the belief that individuals have the right to think and do as they see fit. It was also based on a strong moral code that directs actions, but allows people to make their own mistakes. In general, the government did not punish moral mistakes. Even in Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, it seemed that the punishments were not legal as much as societal and/or religious.

Reader's Digest used to have a feature known as "There Outta Be a Law". It listed moral infractions by entities with power. Guess what? Forty or fifty years later, we now have a law for everything and no one is happy about it! Laws to restrain immorality seldom work. Instead of stopping the offending behavior, the offenders simply try new tactics. These "moral" laws have unintended consequences, and otherwise innocent people have become oppressed. For instance, a 1970 law meant to punish drug lords now takes money and property from families. Just do an Internet search on "asset forfeiture" and see what you find. There are far more stories than Google lists, because they filter the returns. (Ignorance is bliss, and keeps the masses quiet.) While I committed no crime, I lost property to the government. An attorney told me that it would cost close to a thousand dollars to sue to get it back, and that there were no guarantees that I would. In my distressed and destitute condition, I let it slide and thanked God that I wasn't charged with a crime for being a simple bystander.

We now have an incredible fight between legal gun owners and those who think that getting rid of guns gets rid of crime. Hmm. There certainly was no crime before guns were invented! There was no sin, no war, no evil at all! If only gunpowder had been confined to fireworks! Then all would have been sunshine and roses!

Guns, however, were invented, and Cain shot Abel. Wait! You mean that guns were not invented right out of the Garden of Eden? Well, certainly Brutus shot Caesar! No? Didn't Mongol hordes sweep across Asia with repeating rifles, or Vikings terrorize Europe with sub-machine guns?

Guns are not the problem, people. The hearts and minds of humans are. We have to guard our thoughts. We have to guard our own thoughts, because no one can do it for us. We have to be able to think for ourselves. We have to be taught right from wrong and make our individual decisions based a proven moral code. Old knowledge is not lame knowledge. We have not evolved into creatures that don't need a moral compass. Everything said has been said before. Everything done has been done before. Humans are no different today than they were thousands of years ago. Only the names have been changed to perpetuate the myth of progress.

Is there no hope? No trend is irreversible. In fact, all life runs in cycles, (or circles). Humanity is approaching winter, when everything looks dead and dying. Spring follows winter. People try to say that if we never had this or that event, that we would be enjoying a Star Trek like paradise. This is foolishness. The world never settles for peace. Remember the 'peace dividend' that we were supposed to have after the Berlin Wall fell? It turned into the first Gulf War. Material prosperity leads to discontent. It will get better, and it will get worse, and then better and worse again and again until time stops.

This is why we need the free exchange of differing ideas. And guns. Guns provide the tool that allows the weak to be able to defend against the strong. Instead of worrying and/or yelling, enjoy whatever true, honest, just, pure, lovely, good, or virtuous things you find. Keep them in your mind, and let others think their own thoughts. That's true freedom.

160107 Unsafe and Insecure

Ten-Year-Old Girl

Flying used to be fun. No matter what the occasion, I calculate what it would cost to drive verses taking the bus or a train or a boat. I refuse to fly. I have no fear of flying, but like the man said, TSA makes law-abiding citizens feel unsafe and insecure. Our freedoms are attacked on so many fronts that it is impossible to list them all, and fighting even one of them on "their" terms spells defeat for logic and valor.

Instead, trust God. God sees and God knows. All that we humans see and know of this world is temporary. God is permanent. Last night, my daughters and I heard a teaching on the concept of a covenant, a binding contract. Basically, if God said it, that settles it. Do you know what God said? The example in this teaching centered on Abram. God made a covenant with him, and changed his name to Abraham.

When God told Abraham that he would be the father of many nations, he was already old! It took another twenty-five long years, before Abraham finally had a child with Sarah, his wife! Sarah, that poor, dear lady, was ninety when Isaac was born! Then, their child had only two sons. Abraham never saw anything other than apparently infertility, yet he still obeyed God.

James 2:23
(23)  And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Romans 4:3

(3)  For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Israel became a nation, but they ran into trouble and never became as numerous as the stars nor as many as sand on the beach. That started to happen two thousand years later. Christ came, and it became possible to be born again. Because Abraham believed, he became the Father of all who believe. Romans Chapter 4 discusses this completely, but this verse states it concisely:

Romans 4:11

(11)  And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

 

How many have believed and been born again! Add that to all those who are actual, physical descendants of this one man. Do their numbers not compete with the number of stars visible from Earth? Would they not seem as numerous as the grains of sand on a beach? Won't Abraham be blessed at seeing all of us?

What about your life? Time doesn't end here. Time will not end until God says it does. What happens after you die? The world talks of a famous person's legacy. Every president wants to be remembered for something, but whose memory really counts? God had the power to bless us beyond anything we can ask or think, and has promised in His Word that evil will result in nothing. He gave us our own contract, our own covenant. It's in His Word.

(8)  And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

1 Thessalonians 1:10

(10)  And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

We are to be blessed now and in the future. The hassles of today are temporary. The TSA is temporary. Persecutions, whether immediate or merely perceived, cannot stand against God. God protects us and will protect us from evil. Know what God will do. Claim it for yourself. It's in the contract. 

160103 Gambling

While I was with my in-laws, I learned a new card game that used a special deck and puns. Off hand, I can't tell you what the name is nor what it is like. I don't even remember all the rules! If I can, I'll post a picture of it. Right this instant, that game seems to be a symbol for my life. From childhood, I have played card games. A deck of cards is inexpensive entertainment and can teach a child many of the rules of math and arithmetic. I am sure that my math skills are related to all that early practice. My father lead many of the games, because when he was a young adult, he had earned extra money from cards and pool. My mother also had an aptitude for cards. They started playing cards with my siblings and I as soon as we could hold the cards in our hands without dropping them. I could not imagine a household without several decks of cards until I was married. My ex did not play cards, but it seems that our younger daughter inherited my skill with them.

My sister-in-law and her adult daughter were excited about this game and my daughter and I wanted to play. I asked for clarification of the rules. Suddenly the way to win was clear, so I planned my coup and easily won. No one wants to play me in cards anymore. No one wants to play me in backgammon, either. During one backgammon game, my opponent told me that with my skills, I should go to Vegas. Once in a bar, I did meet a gambler who enticed me into a game. After I won, he told me that he had never seen anyone throw the dice like I did, and then admonished me for not betting more. I really didn't like risking MY money like that. The gambler owed me money he didn't have and failed to pay. The act of gambling left a bad taste in my mouth, and the creepy, slimy company didn't help. My dad doesn't say much about his gambling days, but I know that he now has a very low opinion of the profession.

Why do I consider this card game to be a symbol for my life? I am very good at some things. I am not average. I can be phenomenal, but sometimes the associated costs become too high. I am an excellent worker, but I'm not good with people. I won't lie, even about the little things. I show exceptional talent for pissing off customers, especially when I'm trying to be nice. Today, the only jobs available seem to be service related, because all my technical skills are out of date. I rejected more schooling, because I don't have the money and don't qualify for grants and scholarships. (I checked all I could find.) My age and physical limitations narrow the already narrow field. I didn't reject even retail. Employers rejected me. Did I get an unacceptable score on their repetitive personality tests that take an hour to complete? Was I the wrong ethnicity? Did I wear mismatched clothing? It's a good thing that I own my own dwelling and that my needs are few, because I refuse to apply for government assistance.

Sometimes, I really wish that life were as easy as a mathematical equation -- or a card game.

160102 Back In Black

On Sunday, December 20th, I got the call. My Second Mother had died. I dropped everything and drove 1500 miles (2400 kilometers). We packed all the wrong clothing and didn't sleep. We couldn't sleep there, either. My bed was a two-seat settee in the living room, and the house temperature was set at 75F (24C).

I enjoyed seeing my sister-in-law, because we had always been good friends. My fil was a wreck. Often, parents age beyond their ability to be stronger and sharper than their children. Children don't like to see this. Parents feel distress about this as well. They were married for seventy-five years, so I don't expect him to live much longer. I am putting money aside for another 3000 mile round trip.

My seventeen-year-old went with me, because she had to. My adult child cried because she couldn't go. She remembers her father's parents with fondness, but at three weeks to graduation, she couldn't just take off and expect to make up the school work in time.

Before we left, my sister called to say that a huge storm had hit Texas and was travelling towards us. It had already caused newsworthy damage in Dallas. Before we had gone two hundred miles, it caused ice storms in Memphis, Tennessee. We had intended to return that way, so quickly devised a different route. We continued south, because the storm was wedge shaped. The leading edge was north of us. As we continued south, we avoided it. I drove without stopping much, sleeping for an hour or two whenever I felt tired, then continuing south. We reached Mississippi about midnight the next day and slept. The storm woke me about 2:30 am, but it was almost nothing that far south. I'd seen worse rain and wind in a spring shower in Texas. When day came, we had sunshine. It seemed to take forever to cross Louisiana. We crossed into Texas at sunset and cheered. I slept an hour or so in Beaumont and started driving again at midnight. We raced through downtown Houston at the absolute best time: 3:00 am. It was 7:00 am and sunup when we reached home. Yes, Texas is that big.

Next time, I hope to have the elder driving her car, because then we can take turns.
