131219 What Does Prosperity Have to do with Politics?

On Facebook, I post a verse a day, but today's verse inspired a long message.

2 Corinthians 8:14
But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

I have heard people argue that this proves that God is for communism. Saying so demonstrates that they know neither the heart nor the scope of what God has written. There are differences between sharing,  coercion, and actively stealing. Communism steals. There is nothing voluntary about it.

The previous two verses clarify:

2 Corinthians 8:12-14
For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:
But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

An unwilling mind may be undesirable, but it is a choice that God allows. Also, we must choose not to give until it hurts! Communism and socialism give only superficial equality, and they hurt. They hurt individuals who are different from the established norms, they hurt creativity, they hurt innovation, and they hurt the collective hearts of the people. The theory may look good on paper, but it ignores reality and practice. The omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent God and Father of our lord Jesus Christ understands practical reality.
God wants us to give out of our abundance, which includes the abundance of the heart. Give to whom? Not the government. The government is not God. Give to God. If God is Spirit, how do we give to Him? Seek those who have dedicated their lives to speaking, teaching, and living God's Word. For most of us, this means finding an organization that puts God first.

Use a concordance and check out how many times the words 'give', and 'heart' lead to 'abundance' and 'prosperity' in the Bible. Even to simply list the verses takes more room than I have here!

3 John 2  Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Luke_6:38  Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

God's Word is truth. There is a reason that the wisdom of the ages got to be so old. It works. Don't press it into a false mold by trying to make it fit a modern philosophy. Stick with the original. Use what works. Believe God.

131015 Cleanse End
I officially ended the cleanse with a small bowl of blueberries. It was horrible. My sister and I surmised that I have some lingering problems from the gall bladder surgery two years ago. My body did not react as outlined in the book and on the website. Most details are not fit for public consumption. They said I would experience headache and nausea, but I didn't. Instead I had extreme pains elsewhere. The pain in my leg may be from thrombosis. Now that I've had solid food the pain of elimination has stopped, but the leg still hurts. I am searching WebMD for answers. According to what I've read, calling 911 is unnecessary.

131104 Day Two

Yesterday, I started to feel weak and 'off', so I went to the website and discovered that I could use Blackstrap Molasses instead of maple syrup. The blackstrap has more iron, which I need. I started using the dregs of molasses when I was a young adult. My father-in-law described it this way:

Refined sugar cane can be white or light brown. What's left in the bottom of the barrel is called 'molasses'. After they pour that out of the barrel and scrape the gunk off of the bottom, they call that 'blackstrap'. And that's what I am consuming. Maple syrup tastes better, but blackstap molasses makes me feel better.

131103 Master Cleanse

Lemonade Diet Recipe

Mix each of the following lemonade diet ingredients into a large glass:

2 Tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice
2 Tablespoons Rich Maple Syrup
1/10 Teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper Powder – or to taste (as much as you can stand)
8 ounces (250 milliliters of Pure Water)

Today, I started the Master Cleanse.

6am
Juice 7 lemons and one grapefruit. Add 2 Tablespoons of Grade B Maple syrup. Drink straight.

9am
Juice remaining three lemons with one grapefruit and wonder why I'm out of lemons.

Read recipe. It calls for TWO TABLESPOONS of lemon juice, not two cups. Also, I swallowed one quarter teaspoon of cayenne with each glass, not the tiny bit suggested.

I am not dead yet. So far, so good.

131031 Reform

Four hundred and ninety-six years ago today, my hero nailed a list of topics for discussion among his peers. He simply wanted his bosses to make a few changes in the organization to bring it back into line with the original Statement of Purpose, but because he wouldn't sacrifice his principles, the face of Europe changed.

Yes, I taught fellowship last night, and once again, recited the last bit of Luther's speech at the Diet of Worms. Every time I look at what he did and see the depth of his desire to adhere to the Word of God, fire lights in my heart. (No, it wasn't the spicy food I had for supper....)

The Word has examples:

Jeremiah 20:9
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

Acts 4:20
For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

It has to come back to the Word. The Word is first, because it is the Word of God that reveals God. People like to say that they can 'see' God in children, or in nature, or in something else. This may be true, but the Word says that our Adversary, the Devil, wants to deflect us from God, and will use any means possible. According to the Word, THE WORD reveals God. Other things may reflect God, but only the Word reveals Him. I am thankful that someone took the time to teach me the Word; many continued the lessons, so that now I may teach others.

Jack Kelly: The dirty little secret about the government 'shutdown'

"That so many Park police are available to bully law abiding Americans suggests there are quite a few more "nonessential" employees who ought to have been furloughed.
The president has considerable latitude in determining what is "essential" and what isn't. Mr. Obama's choices make it clear he's acting out of spite."

Ephesians 6:12
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

God has been removed from our public life. The void had to be filled. If not current leadership, then someone else would be disintegrating our God-given freedoms. Our enemy is not a man, but uses men. When morality becomes subjective, then these acts become moral.

130923 Using Skype

Reactivating my Skype account seemed like a good idea after the embarrassing phone splash yesterday. My Skype number is eileen.mynes. I think my name is quite amusing, since I am a Swiss-German American with ties to "the old country". Until I married, I had no connection whatsoever to the British Isles - except extreme enjoyment of Monty Python, Douglas Adams, Arthur C. Clark, etc...)

I cannot tell you why my dad gave me an Irish first name, but my middle name and maiden name have been in the Swiss side of the family for at least 800 years. A decade ago, I looked for myself online, (with my married name), and found a woman in Yorkshire, England. Another woman near there contacted me to set up an American reunion. I didn't go, but many of my in-laws did.

So... If you have a Skype account, you can call my on the computer for free. I might even answer. I don't have a video camera, so you can't be frightened by my appearance. ;)

130921 Could I Survive an Apocalypse?

130921 Could I Survive an Apocalypse?

You Would Survive an Apocalypse

Congratulations! You are one of the few who always has a plan B. And a plan C.

You like to be well prepared in every aspect of your life. You are very responsible and conscientious.

Zombies? Floods? Civilizational collapse? Famine? Killer clowns from outer space? No sweat for you.

People may make fun of how prepared you are, but you know they'll be knocking on your door first when things go down.

When I was a child, we lived on a ranch and survived two hurricanes in addition to the 'normal' crises. I even participated in a nuclear attack drill. As an adult, I participated in wilderness survival camps. I endured more hurricanes, as well as blizzards, sand storms, earthquakes, riots, and fires. We lived on a farm, where we survived multiple tropical storms, one of which had a PBS special made about its the damage. In 2009, I wrote an apocalyptic novel that drew from these and other experiences.

Those quiz questions were pretty mild.

130920 People Like Results

Previous Entry Edit Entry Edit Tags Add to Memories Share Track This
Warning: The following discusses beliefs.

In 1981, I heard the Word of God taught with authority, accuracy, and attention to detail. Finally, my search that had started on the last day of 1974 found its true direction. I could not understand why everyone didn't acknowledge the same reasoning that the Word of God is the Will of God, and that this Word gives all things that pertain unto life and godliness. Sadly, I learned that only those who hunger and thirst for righteousness can find it.

In 1983 I started going to a small Bible college and met a woman who could have been described as my bff, or 'best friend forever'. We had a tight circle of friends with whom we did everything together: ate, worked, played, prayed, and together, we researched the Word of God. It seemed like a bit of heaven. I met some great men and women of God, who had dedicated their lives to His service, who had been all over the world, or were from those other parts of the world. It was invigorating to see how God caused them to triumph is various circumstances. I kept in contact with as many as I could in the years that followed.

Then, some leaders argued with the main leadership of the ministry. Many had found bones to pick, and few let it heal. Strife ensued. Most of the former fled the ministry headquarters to gather recruits from the rest of the country.

"The root is dead!" they proclaimed.
"Tear up the old!"
"Plant new!"
"Follow someone else instead!"

They flooded my area and gained many converts. My alarms flashed. I had never followed a person, I followed God, Who is revealed by His Word. People lie, and people are fooled. People who follow God can get back on the right track as long as they keep God in their sites. God's Word reveals God; only sometimes do men speak God's Word.

Our close circle of friends had fragmented along the lines of the argument. It hurt my heart to see my closest friends fall away. In 1990, only myself and my bff remained. I wrote to another acquaintance who had returned to school for further training in the work of the ministry. I asked her pointed questions concerning the terrible deviations that the divisive faction had been telling me. She assured me that they lied, and that the ministry was thriving in the absence of the strife they wrought. I wrote my bff -- and never heard from her again.

Alone. I alone stood. No, I am not really alone, because quite a few people do put God first. Many people stand with God, and fellowship with me according to His rightly-divided Word, (2 Timothy 2:15). I have no friends when it comes to God's Word, so God makes sure that the friends I have are the best!

All this concerning the Ministry has been to explain why I choose Young Living over DoTerra. Upstart copycats make me suspicious. The South Beach Diet is just the Atkins with a tan. If you want to know the standard, go to the source.

130918 "Something Wicked This Way Comes..."

No one pricked a finger, but both girls have received concussions within ten days of each other. Agent has an unhealthy fascination with the TV show, Supernatural. Moon has a thing for a young man with spiritual problems. I'd almost rather have the atheist around again. Most of what is promulgated about spirits is bunk. So far, only two of the episodes of this series have set off my creepometer. I tried to explain to Agent about parts of my background and deliverance. She just says that the actors are cute.

This morning, I saw it by the TV. Time to clean house!

130913 Career Decisions

At the age of nineteen, and after three semesters of college, I realized that while I really liked engineers, engineering was not my cup of tea. I loved the science; I loved seeing how things worked; I loved making things work, but what it took to get there was not only arduous, but somewhat boring. That summer, my dad encouraged me to work for a mining company. Again, I loved the engineers, but now I discovered what their support staff did.

This was the 1970s, and personal computers were still in the process of being born. What computers do now, people did by hand. What they did, fascinated me. Drawing with instruments? It was as if art and science met! I asked a drafter where she learned to do what she did, and my first career was conceived.

Moon once said that she loved buildings. Now that she has had a few semesters in an architecture program, she doubts the career choice. I understand. Sometimes, what looks good on the outside actually smells bad on the inside. Getting there is not the same as being there. Like engineering was for me, architecture is becoming for her. When she solidifies what direction to take, she’ll let us know. She has many educational loves. She’ll find something and obtain her degree.

Jonah Goldberg: The grand myth of live-and-let-live liberalism

My favorite line: "As a conservative resident of Washington, D.C., where registered Republicans are outnumbered by about 9 to 1 and where truly conservative Republicans are outnumbered on a scale comparable to the predicament faced by Frodo and Sam when they sneaked into orc-infested Mordor, I find such statements hilarious."

Civilization cycles. A look at history seems to indicate that we are approaching the end/beginning of another cycle.

130807 Meanwhile, Fire Starts in Kitchen

With one grown child at home and one teen, I go to bed when I am tired. They tend to stay up late. Sometimes, they cook. Sometimes, they even clean. (My younger daughter likes to clean when I am not looking. She's afraid I will correct her methods.)

Someone cooked something that boiled over.

This morning, I put on a kettle for tea and walked away from the stove to read posts. Hearing a noise, I returned to the stove. The burner was on fire! So, how many jokes can we make about me starting a fire by boiling water?

A friend took an Alignment Test, so I did, too. Looks like it's time to quit telling the girls that I'm Chaotic Good.

You Scored as Neutral Good

A Neutral Good person tries to do the 'goodest' thing possible. These people are willing to work with the law to accomplish their goal, but if the law is corrupt they are just as willing to tear it down. To these people, doing what's right is the most important thing, regardless of rules, customs, or laws.

130904 Do We Have Issues?

Psalm 119 is an acrostic poem in which each section starts with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Each section is in alphabetical order. Every one of the one hundred and seventy-six verses uses a synonym for God's Word. The Word, which revels God, must be first in our thoughts and actions. Without His Word, how do we differentiate God from Satan? (Remember: liars lie, especially the father of lies.)

In light of that, why do Christians put everything they have into ‘issues’? That is what the world does. We should be promoting the Word of God instead. What does the Word say?

1 John 1:5
“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”

That’s where we need to put our efforts and not into political chants and rants. I fully support those business owners who refuse to pander to the whims and threats of certain groups. A private business should be able to have the right to refuse service to anyone. Even if it is based on prejudice or ignorance, they should be able to operate a legitimate business as they choose and let the customers decide with their feet. Neither the Thought Police, nor The Department of Pre-crime should have any say in the matter. One may argue that drug running is a business, but that bypasses the concept of ‘legitimate’ as they break other, more serious laws as well.

When I say to concentrate on the Word, I mean to spread the Good News of the resurrection and the new birth and how to live the more abundant life of John 10:10.

John 10:10
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Jesus didn’t address the specifics of stealing, killing, or destroying. He went straight to the life. God has so much more to offer than a set of arcane rules regulations. God offers life in all its fullness. Yes, the details include changing one’s thinking and redirecting one’s actions, but the rewards are significant. Any athlete knows he must make significant sacrifices in order to perform, but he does it willingly for a temporal reward. God offers eternal rewards in addition to the immediate. Let’s concentrate on a few of the present rewards: Confidence, peace of mind, strength, even physical healing come from believing and adhering to God’s Word.

Psalm 107:20
“He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

Rumor has it that heaven will be boring. Give me a break! Our limited perceptions cannot yet conceive of what it will be like. As vast as the universe seems to be, there will be even more to explore in the future. Therefore, do not get caught up in the tiny issues of today’s society. Those little wars the Adversary starts are nothing compared to the greatness of what God wrought for us in Christ Jesus. Even in the worst of times, God cares about our lives and works to see us blessed. Let yourself be blessed by God today by speaking of God’s goodness. That is what defeats the antics of the Adversary.

130903 Daniel and Politics

Last week, a friend of mine taught the Bible in front of about a thousand people. He taught on Daniel and what got him into the lion's den. He was a high official in first the Babylonian court, then when they were conquered, the Persian court. The new Persian king liked him better than the others, so a few of other officials devised a way to 'remove' Daniel from their collective craw. They told the king that 'everyone' wanted to honor him, so had him make an unbreakable law. It said that no one was to worship anything other than the king himself for 30 days. The penalty for breaking this kind of law was death. This particular death was by hungry lion. Not even the king could rescind the law of the Medes and Persians. We know how this ended.

Daniel chose to continue praying to God. He even opened his shades to allow everyone to see him praying. He refused to bend away from what God's Word said, and figured that God would protect him. This brings us to a baker in Oregon and a photographer in New Mexico and several other people with businesses across the country. More here. We are not up to killing people just yet. Killing businesses seems to be enough. Maybe.

Sometimes, I think I harp on the fact that in the 1980s, I knew some Soviet citizens who became former Soviet citizens. Speaking about God in the former Soviet Union was a matter of life and death, yet they did it. Being a Christian in Egypt today is a matter of life and death. Seventy to eighty percent of Americans claim to be Christian, yet it is becoming illegal to practice those beliefs. We have not reached the level of the former Soviet Union, nor today's Egypt, but it seems as if we are walking up the mountain on scree.

Do we really want government telling us what to believe? Do the Thought Police run our country? Some of my ancestors fled Germany for religious reasons in the early 18th Century. Later, others left Germany for political reasons. A final set came in the 20th Century with hope for a better life. What happens when Rome falls? I do not believe that it is the end of the world. (If Christ comes today, I don't mind being wrong.) The United State of America is not the Israel of God. Because of what Christ accomplished, God works with individuals wherever they are. Not everyone wants to come here -- believe it or don't. If this government succeeds in shutting God totally out of American life, God will prosper some other country. It has happened before.

130816 Not Liking the Sound of This

At 4am a headache slammed me awake, and increased as time passed. After breakfast, I passed on my TOPS meeting, took peppermint and ibuprophen, and went back to bed. At noon with the headache still present. I decided that I needed water, but couldn't drink. Juice is liquid that goes down quickly, so I had a glass.

Boom! Headache gone. I don't like the implications of this...

Cheap testing costs $50. Last time I was tested, it was part of a medical study with no expense to me.
I'll let you know if I get any.

130813 Back Online

None of these labels have been used before. How about that.

Car:
On August 4th, I went to the grocery store, and when I tried to leave, a huge SUV backed into my car and hit the only non-vital section. I didn't even need to fix it, but did want to know if it would hurt the drivability of it. Turns out, the main cost will be the paint job. Today, August 13, his insurance finally made a determination and will pay for the repairs. God is good and I am thankful.

Computer:
As some know, my Internet inconveniently quit working at the same time my car was hit. The computer wasn't even there! I fussed with it for a week, then took the machine and the air card to the T-Mobile store to see if they could do something. They did what I had been trying, and it worked the first time. Typical. The problem, however, is that my computer erased my old sign in account, and took the rights to all my files with it. I cannot access my documents. A friend may be able to help later today. The Ask.com, Google Answers, and the Microsoft forms could not.

Rabbits:
Finally, rabbits. We have baby bunnies, and they are cute. Baby bunnies, however, grow up to be adult rabbits. When we bought these things as babies, we though we were getting two females. Moon named hers Sylph, and I named mine Dynamite. A sylph is a mythological female being. Sylph looked odd to me. She was quite large. That rabbit was also highly aggressive, and picked on Boy Bunny, who was rather small.. One day, I thought I saw something bad under her hind legs, so I flipped her over. Oops. A name change, and separation were in order.

Everything made sense to me. Size, aggression, and the shape of the head match match the look and behavior of males. He was also trying to kill the smaller male. I broke the news to Moon, and told her that we had renamed her rabbit.

"Destroyer of Worlds?" she asked.
"No, but that's better that what we called him."
"What did you call him?"
"Meany Butt."

So, Destroyer of Worlds needs a new home. He is a 'people bunny', which means that he plays well with humans, but can't be trusted with other rabbits. He likes to run, but waits patiently in his cage. Timothy Hay and pellets are his standard fare, but he loves the occasional carrot or stalk of celery. My pictures are always fuzzy and incoherent, but he is a good-looking lop with thick white fur, grey ears, and a grey mustashe.

130713 Colored Drugs

Sometimes, it seems as if legislators hunt for ways to control every aspect of our lives. For those on the Feingold Diet who use pharmaceuticals, this bill would deprive them of the necessary option of NOT adding dyes and flavorings to medications. Diphenhydramine, for instance, can stop a dangerous allergy attack, but for those of us sensitive to dyes, the pink-colored cure can be as devastating as the disease. While this drug has become more available in colorless form, there are many others which do not.

If you like writing letters and email, there is info in the article. Pray, if that is your preference. In our case, we have converted our medicine cabinet to Young Living Essential Oils, and quit using man-made chemicals for symptom control. This really avoids the dyes, flavorings, and other man-made substances that mess with our brains.

God's Word is Faithful

God's Word is Faithful
by Robert Stanley

I Wanna Be Right

Developed from: The One and Only Authority for Right and Wrong
by Tony Chambers(Notes) on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 7:14am

The One and Only Authority for Right and Wrong
Several years ago, I paid attention to Facebook and other social sites simply to keep tabs on what my children were doing. Three years ago, I discovered that some people used Facebook to speak the Word, and I signed up for the verse of the day. More recently, someone invited me to join a group of Way Believers, and this is based on part of a study one of them posted.
He asked if morals, such as our stand against homosexuality, were just a matter of opinion? "Is there an ultimate standard for morality and if not where would one draw the line? If it’s all just a matter of opinion then logically anything anyone wants to do, no matter what it is, even murder, could be deemed morally acceptable and ok to do." (My first contemplation of national politics came when I was just ten. I paid attention to the Humphrey/Nixon/Wallace debates! In 1972, I had very definite opinions about the issues. Later, I followed every bit of the Watergate saga. By the time I was eighteen, I was campaigning for my favorite candidates. I took the Foundational Class on Biblical Research when I was 23 years old.)
"You’d think it would be abundantly clear to everyone that everything cannot be morally acceptable or right. But with man such is not the case. So therefore if there is an ultimate standard for morality then man is not cable of judging what that standard is or know where to draw the line for acceptable behavior. He would draw many different lines. And that is exactly what we have today and have had throughout human history." Except that I put God and His Word first in my life, I would be one of those hyper sign-waving people who stand in front of public buildings and yelling.
Jeremiah 10:23  O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
What does sign-waving and slogan-shouting accomplish? Most people seem to have made up their minds. Who is right? How do we know? I want to be right. That's why politics had become such a big thing for me. Then, I heard the Word of God.
Deuteronomy 32:1-4
Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
So, who should one trust: man who believes truth is a matter of opinion or God who is right?
Titus 1:1,2,9
Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
John 17:17  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Romans 1:18-32
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Romans 2:1-2
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

The truth of God’s Word is clear. Like it or not, believe or not, accept it or not. We know that all the Word works together. All of it is God's Word or none of it is. This is what we find worth the fight! My life does not depend on what political system prevails; my life depends on God.
1Co 1:17-31  For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
That no flesh should glory in his presence.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Who is right? God is! When we side with God, we are always right! God is the final authority.

130704 Barbarians.

Barbarism is a possibility. Is it likely? Rome fell. Persia fell. The Toltec Empire fell. Who’s to say that modern empires wouldn’t fall? Technology is no proof of civilization. The Aztecs performed heart surgery, and ancient Egyptians made batteries. Some say that this is proof that space aliens came to earth. That really insults achievers. Ancient people had a lot more smarts than modern people think they had. Few had the means to record their thoughts. There were no PDAs, no Daytimers, no How-To Books, no To-Do lists. They kept it all in their heads, which takes a certain degree of skill and intelligence. Many of us would not live long if we had to grow or catch our own food, or face other hazards of nature.

Barbarism doesn’t have to be low tech. People talk a lot about George Orwell’s 1984. Most probably read the Cliff Notes, or just repeat what others say about it. Read the book. Read it as it was written. It is a study in barbarism – with technology and in communism. A companion book is Brave New World. Both books have been so long on the ‘dissect it to death’ literary lists for schools, that no one can see what the authors were really trying to show. Aldous Huxley’s book shows barbarism within a corrupted form of capitalism. Government controlled too much, and only those on the edges of civilization were truly free. Freedom isn’t having. Freedom is self-determination.

Today, I saw my dad. I enjoy our meetings. He is reading a book about US involvement in The Great War, or the War to End All Wars. The book has a bit in it about how people thought at the time. That was one hundred years ago. Some thoughts have come full circle. The ‘elite thinkers’, however, are still called ‘Progressives’. In Ancient Greece, they were called ‘Gnostics’. They would think, and because they could think it, it must have been true. We laugh at what the ancient Greeks thought about science, but some religious and political ideas are still alive today. The “I think it, so it must be true” mind set is chief among them. Proof is not needed, and is considered to be in bad taste, even rude. Indeed, many current arguments in politics and religion originated in Ancient Greece:

Who or what is God?
Do gods exist?
Why am I here?
Who controls me?
Whom do I control?
What is ‘good’ or ‘evil’?
What is freedom?
Does happiness matter?

All these modern questions were asked by ancient Greek philosophers.

The trial in Florida may inspire some to ignore the rule of law.

How does a discussion on ancient philosophers relate to the trail that shouldn’t have been? These are the barbarians at the gate! Civilization cannot stand against the tit for tat mentality of 'us' and 'them'. There are people who don’t know, and don’t want to know what it means to get along with others who are different. The term, ‘white Hispanic’ is silly nomenclature that was made up on the spot to cover the prejudice of the elite progressives in this country. Most Hispanics ARE Caucasian, but some are Negro, maybe Oriental. This particular Hispanic was trying to protect his multi-cultural neighbors from what he thought was a viable threat. Two white people were killed in the days following the incident. Their murderers stated on video that the deaths were definitely acts of revenge, not self-defense. Many others claim that they will riot and/or do other illegal acts should Zimmerman be found legally not-guilty.

Barbarians.

130609 IRS and Blogging

The confirmation that certain government officials and agencies were targeting certain people and groups has me bugged. For two years, I have not been able to file a tax return electronically due to unknown complications that resulted in rejection by the IRS. An H&R Block representative told me that I made too little to bother with filing, so I avoided the hassle and didn't. What happens when I do make enough to have to file? I post a lot political dissent. Have I been targeted for my divisive public opinions? For my associations? My relations? Am I paranoid? Some say I have a right to be paranoid, considering my history.

On a technicality in 2010, I was denied medicaid for emergency surgery, and my children were denied food stamps in 2011. They said I had three cars. The State of Texas had taken two of them, but they were officially titled to me. I had to sell my farm, so no benefits. My daughter is doing OK with work and college, but I can't find a job I can do. My skills and education are outdated, because in twenty years, I hadn't worked outside the home. My chosen profession needs to be 'cutting edge', not 'tried and true'. More generically obtainable work is too physically taxing for my current health. I suck at sales.

No work seems to be available, and the money from the sale of the farm has been spent. No large items remain to be sold. Moon has to finish college, but she's self motivated and will be able to complete her goals. Agent still needs direct action on her preparation for adulthood. My biggest expenses are the phones and automobile expenses. We owe nothing on the cars, but insurance and maintenance cost quite a bit.

Phone and Internet cost $160 a month. Selling the cars will save $5000/year, not counting gasoline. In August, the contract with the phones and the Internet expires. If nothing changes with my income, I shall cancel everything  Just sayin'. If I disappear at that time, it's because I am living off the grid. The grid costs money I don't have. Maybe I will live longer that way.

130529 Followings.

After much thought and a little sadness, I quit following certain people and pages. Last week, a certain teaching added the last bit of grain that tipped the balance. The teaching was on a small section of scripture in the Old Testament, concerning four Judeans in Babylon. Three of them are always mentioned together: Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. They must have been best buds in the sense that iron sharpeneth iron. Most Christians refer to them as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

These were real people. Real people who decided that obeying God was preferable to anything. They did not compromise, or make excuses. They decided that God would take care of them. They didn’t concentrate on their feelings. They didn’t concentrate on their believing. They concentrated on God.

The men who threw them into the fire, were killed by the fire, but these young men did not have even the scent of smoke on their clothes when they walked out of this furnace. In those days, and in that place, Babylon had the peak of technology and civilization under their control. This was a massive smelter. Nebuchadnezzar controlled incredible political power. Were they not afraid? No matter what they felt, they knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that their God was stronger than any government on earth.

This is why I decided that I must no longer read certain political blogs. They depress me and pull me away from the joy found in God’s Word. Knowing what goes on around me may be necessary, and I’ll find a news outlet, but reading about the horrible things people think and do has no place in my life. 1 Timothy 2:1,2 shall blend with Romans 8:26. I shall concentrate on the power of God and blessing people with it, and let politicians worry about the “he said; she said” debates. God will take care of His own.

130507 Joy is an Inside Job - Prosperity

Sometimes, we have the wrong expectations. This is cultural. Joy is an inside job; it depends on the Word in our hearts. It doesn't change the circumstances, but it does change what the circumstances do to us. When my children were younger, periodically I would have them write a list of things for which to give thanks. This may sound flippant, but the elder once wrote that she was thankful for air. She was serious. She explained that without air we couldn't breathe, and if we couldn't breathe, we would die, so she decided to thank God for air. It is too easy to dwell on what we don't have and ignore what we do.

Whenever I feel that my finances are not where they should be, I give more. When no money comes in, I give away stuff I'm not using. Sometimes, I consider whether I really need stuff I do use, especially if it costs money to maintain. My Branch Coordinator once asked me how we even paid our bills with our limited income. I simply determined not to have any bills.

I may have attended every Word in Business and Profession Conference there ever was. I know I was at the first and the last. At one of them, a presenter said to a group, "You already make enough money, lower your expenses." I really took that to heart. What I cut would not do for everyone, and what I kept others might cut. A State Coordinator once told me that if one really needs a Lexis, God will provide it. Few, however, really need that Lexis.

We have no TV reception, no cable, no satellite. No packaged dinners, no microwave oven, no home phone, no eating out, no new clothes. If it costs money, we analyze everything about it. We do have a home, two cars, and plenty of food. Often, when we need something, someone else gives it to us. After the divorce in early 2011, my two girls were denied food stamps on a technicality. We had been getting them while married, because his income was so low.

"Fine", I told myself. I had already managed to pay all his debt, and noticed how much freer we felt. I realized that we could live without him and without government help. We depend on God, now.
It hasn't been easy, and I'm still looking for steady employment. An idea I have is to teach other people how to live on less by teaching old fashioned Home Economics classes. We have a large homeschool community, so that would be an ideal place for me to start.

130502 The Essential Oil Debates

One day, years past, I lost my inhaler. A friend jumped to the rescue with Peppermint Oil, which lead me to became a distributor of Young Living Oils.

Last year, another of the distributors I know told me that she had lost most of her downline to do-Terra, a new company formed by people who had left Young Living. I knew nothing about them, and didn't investigate. I have been quite happy with YL, and had seen some wonderful results concerning ligaments, asthma, and chronic bronchitis. Then their cancer research amazed me, and I rubbed shoulders with some of the people in those amazing stories.

This last week, a lot of information seems to have been dumped into my lap, because I wasn't looking for it. One must use God's filter to judge the unknowable. What truth lies behind the gossip is often unknowable except by God. There seems to have been a lot of emotion involved with the do-Terra split. Emotion, passion, and self-righteous indignation are no guarantee for truth. In fact, they muddy the truth by skipping past logic. We have to rely on God for Truth.

One cannot build up oneself by tearing down others. (In contrast, pointing out what the Word says cleans the wound so that healing can progress. This is often called "constructive criticism".) I am convinced that essential oils, properly prepared and used, are medicines as God intended them to be. I am assured that YL prepares their oils properly. This woman’s blog seems calm and reasonable:

Essential Survival

Here are some more:

I am sure that the debate will continue, but I am also assured that therapeutic grade essential oils heal. This whole debate seems just like politics. I hate politicking. I prefer results. I pray for healing and especially that essential oils continue to be available to me and my friends.

130418 Lightening Rod

Everyone has an opinion. Everyone discriminates. If they don’t, how is that there is more than one item on a menu? How do people get dressed in the morning without discerning one item of clothing as more worthy than another? Some decisions are easy, and others incredibly complicated. Then, to make matters worse, along comes political correctness with the diseased finger of pre-judgement. (See any recent news item.)

When I look at the crazy standards that this country and much of the world have, I am tempted to despair. I don’t, because I know that this will pass. Every generation thinks that their ideas are new, but there is nothing new under the sun, only new labeling over a fresh coat of paint. Progressive policy resembles what Plato deemed perfect. How long ago did Plato live? Did it work then? Did Utopia happen? Where is the Worker’s Paradise?

All things new are of God. Intellectuals have been taught to disdain anything related to God, and to embrace secular humanism. Humans stink, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Even a cute little baby has the decay of sin flowing through his or her cute little veins. Babies are selfish and have to be taught to think outside themselves. No one grows up being ‘perfect’, and perfect conditions cannot exist because of sin. We need a standard. God gave us the standard, and then provided the way to reach Him despite the standard. It was not anything we puny humans could do on our own.

Not just one train has busted through the station of my thoughts. Everyday, a new crisis emerges: gun (non)control, bombs that kill, redefining marriage, porous vs. sovereign borders, crime, debt, hedonism, disease, education, and on and on and on. Many Americans feel that we are losing ourselves. We have, only if we have completely lost God. God, however, works well with small, committed groups. A friend of mine posted a graphic. She may have made it herself, for it appears no other place that I could find. Here is the link to her show, and where the graphic, with this quote, was posted.

"If the Bible is just a book of fairy tales, why is it banned in at least 52 countries? No one goes to jail for reading the Illiad, the Odyssey, or Aesop's Fables."

Enjoy.

130413 Alone

Today, I was alone all day. Since mid-February of 1994, 'alone' has not been my normal state. I was alone for a few weeks in 2010. THAT ended badly. Previously, I had been alone for whole hours at a time, but those weeks in 2010 (and today) were different. My future altered. Soon, I will be alone, because my children will grow into adulthood and devise lives for themselves. I thought about having a panic attack.

Agent spent the night with a friend, and is still out doing cos-play. I'll go get her in a few. I woke this morning with a sense of loss. She was gone, and I could feel it. Moon also went to work. After work, she went out with friends. I'm alone with the bunnies. Bunnies fail at companionship.

The national news is depressing. This is not helping that empty feeling. Historic forces cycle approximately every eighty years, according to a couple of historians who wrote an interesting book: Generations. If what they say is true, we are living through the equivalent of the Great Depression, and world affairs will become a lot worse before there is a glimmer of better. Of course, some camps proclaim that Obama in the Anti-Christ, or even Hitler. No, he's simply making a name for himself, and the US will never recover. Rights we took for granted may disappear forever in the name of 'safety'. Privacy and individual responsibility have disappeared from our society. My attitude is this:

1 Thessalonians 5:3
"For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape."

The only peace is with God, and freedom is not safe.

Essential Oils: Hubby's Headache Hurriedly Heals

Essential Oils: Hubby's Headache Hurriedly Heals

Can we say enough about peppermint? Peppermint was my first oil, and I used it for homemade toothpaste, then asthma. (I no longer need an inhaler.) Peppermint was my daughter's first oil, and she uses it for headaches without the carrier oil. (The article mentions almond.)

Carrier oils are many and varied. Most people already have olive oil in their homes. I use olive, coconut, or the Young Living blends V-6 and OrthoEase. Read Stephanie Castillo's article. It is simple and direct.

130406 Intelligent Thinking

Not everyone is the same. This is good. It takes diverse talent to achieve ‘most anything, and no one person can know everything. Sometimes, I get so used to ‘dumbing down’ my speech so that others can understand me, than people think I’m dumb. When my thoughts move so quickly that my words trip over themselves, the same thing happens. Now that my children have reached a reasonable age, it gives me great pleasure to talk at length on certain topics that make other people’s heads spin. The elder and I discuss politics, while the younger and I discuss physics. It is glorious.

I have a cousin who ‘knows everything’ and lives in Liberal La-la Land. He fails to acknowledge that I might know a thing or two that he doesn’t. He and I studied quite different subjects in college. My majors centered in science and math, while he had a liberal arts education. “Liberal” used to mean generous, but in the US today, it means following a certain code that bypasses thinking and depends on feel-good assumptions. Facts and figures get thrown out the window when they don’t fit the litany. I know, because I have old BOOKS and don’t depend on the Internet for my information. I want to be the epitome of the former, but consider myself to be the opposite of the later definition.

My failure is that I expect people to think logically. It seems to be a lost art. I have altered my opinions and given ground when someone can show me why something is true, because I use my brain. One example is minimum wage. I used to like minimum wage, because it gave me a standard. Then, I took Economics 101 and saw how supply and demand affected the cost of goods and services. Minimum wage leads to unemployment. Which is better? Low wages, or NO wages? My younger daughter would get a job, but no one will hire her unskilled self at $7.25 per hour. Also, a superfluity of laws dictate what young people can and can’t do.

My cousin simply says that minimum wage has to be raised, because no one can live off of it. That may be true, but who takes those low paying, unskilled jobs? Not the heads of households, (except in extremely rare, but much publicized sob stories.) People used to find roommates to share expenses, but there are restrictive laws about this, too. In 1976, my very first job paid minimum wage. A year later, my second job paid twice minimum wage, because by then, I had gained skills. A mere four years later, my income exceeded the national average. That doesn’t seem possible today. Who will take a chance on a nobody? Bosses can’t even fire people anymore.

Today, I’m not working because I don’t want to work. Well, I don’t want to work if it means unrelenting pain from standing or stooping all day. Those are the most abundant jobs available, and I could work tomorrow at one of them. Instead, I signed up with Manpower, a great organization for people with certain skills, but they have no current assignments for me. In a sense, I am practicing some of those skills here today by typing. I like this kind of work, and it usually pays slightly above minimum wage. Employers, however, have become a little more skeptical about hiring unknowns. God can do anything. Now that I’ve made a decision, He will act. :)

Essential Oils: No Longer Need Daily Pain Patches

Essential Oils: No Longer Need Daily Pain Patches

I use therapeutic grade peppermint daily. My health is much improved.

What is therapeutic grade? It is the highest quality. There are several grades - the lowest is just smell, and can be simply chemicals and not the plant oils. Perfumes fall into this category. Middle grades contain those oils that one sees in health food stores. They usually have warning labels about not ingesting. Young Living sells only therapeutic grade oils. These can be ingested and have no side effects. If one does feel what seem to be a side effect from Young Living oils, it is from the poisons leaving the body. We may want those poisons gone with less ado, so slow down on the oils and drink more water!

130215 XIX

At 2 am, I said that it was time, and took a shower. After some arm twisting, my husband finally got me to the hospital at 8am, but no room was available! It had been a busy night in maternity. All the while, I was calm and smiling. No one believed that I was that close to delivery, so they told me to walk the halls. I wasn’t reacting in the traditional manner. You see, there was no pain.

By 10am, I had a room with nurses, a special bed, and machines. A doctor named “Bucky” came to see that I was dilating properly, and asked how I felt. Still smiling, I said that there was pressure, but no pain. He told the nurse that it would be at least another four hours. They made me stay flat on my back. And hooked me to machines.

Soon, the pain hit! It lasted for 45 minutes. Bucky appeared. He was supposed to leave at noon, and it was almost noon.. Although barely half of his estimated time had passed, he was able to deliver a soft little blob that opened its eyes at me. My mother-in-law took a picture of that moment. I look like I’m ready to dissect a frog. I was tired, but my heart was filled with love. My first, born at 12:23pm, was absolutely perfect.

During pregnancy, I had prayed for lack of pain, perfect health, good teeth, and that only one of the three physicians would deliver that baby. I wanted Bucky to be there, because he was the one who once told me that I was too old to have a child. He had wanted to give me fertility treatments, but I had said that God would provide. He was the nicest in that practice, and I wanted him to have the blessing of welcoming my dear Elizabeth into the world.

Today, my incredible little girl is nineteen years old! Happy Birthday, Sweetie! You are God’s Best! You live up to your name.

ELIZABETH
GENDER: Feminine

Meaning & History
From  the Greek form of the Hebrew name ('Elisheva') meaning "my God is an oath" or perhaps "my God is abundance". The Hebrew form appears in the Old Testament where Elisheba is the wife of Aaron, while the Greek form appears in the New Testament where Elisabeth is the mother of John the Baptist.

130206 "...the borrower is servant to the lender."

Proverbs 22:7b  "... the borrower is servant to the lender."

In the late 1980s, I had a credit card debt of $388. It tore me up! I had been reduced to a minimum wage job that barely met my living expenses, and that debt haunted me! I married, and the debt became worse. Like a person who gains excess weight gradually, I didn't notice that my step was sluggish, nor that my energy levels were suffering. Debt seemed natural and a part of life.

My heart knew better. Sometimes, the light would shine and we'd pay off most or all of it. Debt-freedom felt good, but never seemed to last. There was always one more shiny object to have. When he was taken in September 2010, it took me just six months to pay off the last penny of about $70,000 worth of debt. I was finally debt-free.

After two full years of continuous freedom from debt, I must say that it feels great. I don't have to rob Peter to pay Paul. I don't have to do the credit-debt shuffle. Over the weekend, I heard that again credit card companies were starting to apply fees for using the cards, so immediately, I switched my Debit card use to debit only. Why pay for something I don't really need?

Modern, worldly wisdom comes up lacking again. Use a mortgage to buy a house, but become homeless when the economy shifts? Everyone needs a college education to make 'real' money, but how many college grads are working in their chosen fields? How many are working?

God knew, and still knows more than any man. Buying a home is not bad; getting an education is not bad, but are they the answer for everyone in every situation? Obviously not. Here is my point:

If one is not able to pay for something outright, then something is wrong. Don't go into debt.

Proverbs 22:26,27
Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.
If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

God is more reliable than money.

130130 Properity and Health

Proverbs 13:7
There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

Read 3 John 2 because it links prosperity and health. My health has improved, so let me slip in something about prosperity today. There is nothing wrong with money, as long as our attitudes towards God are right. One can easily find a person without money who has far more of a greed problem than someone who simply got paid for doing something well. Greed has much more to do with wanting and desiring rather than actually having.

“There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing:”

In 2011, Herbalife seemed like a good work-at-home idea. Decades ago, I had known some believers who had been selling it, and the product seemed like a good idea. The group I joined, however, had one thought: MONEY. That’s all they talked about. “Get rich!” “Amass wealth!” “Live in a mansion like mine!” “Buy a Lamborghini or two!” That was not, and could not be my goal. I’m glad, because that particular group is currently under investigation for shady practices. I quit long before I could lose as much money as someone in this article did:  Herbalife Troubles

The article is one-sided, because I have met honest people in the organization. Top recruiters, however, get all the glory and all the money by telling all the lies. A bit of truth is that I am thankful that my daughter and her boyfriend lost and are still losing weight on the product. She lost weight, not by restricting calories, but by adding the nutrition contained in the shakes. Although I can support the product, I had to ask myself: “Is money really worth the damage that lying does to my heart? “

there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.”

On the other hand, I know and have known many wonderful, godly people who had varying degrees of money, but are all prosperous. Two examples:

1. A certain man, a friend, seems to have nothing beyond the bare basics, yet he always smiles. He loves the Household and speaks God’s Word to anything that moves. He has seen signs, wonders, and miracles. He has riches no one can take. Whenever he has a need, God provides.

2. Another man I know grew up very poor, but when he finally heard the rightly-divided Word of God speak of prosperity, he decided to prove it. Today, he has one child in college with no debt, while the other graduated last year with no debt. Isn’t college debt one of the big problems of today? What about housing crisis? He also owns his home; he has no mortgage. He may not be a millionaire, but he has prospered and is at peace.

Both these men made themselves ‘poor’ before God. They obeyed God. They put God first in their lives. God rewarded them with prosperity. Prosperity is not a number. It is having each need met as it arises. It is peace of mind. It is health and wholeness.

God Bless You!

130129 Rabbits and Essential Oils

Today, I posted this to the Oil Testimonial site:

Pet Health With Essential Oils
My children wanted bunny rabbits as pets. They did research, bought some bunnies from a reputable pet store, and set up a cage and play area. After a few weeks, one of the bunnies developed a red eye with puss. The Pet MD site said to take the animal to the vet immediately. We wanted to do this naturally, so I pulled out my oils. I had already put a drop of Purification on each to repel/kill fleas, ticks, and mites. Purification still seemed the best option, so I brushed additional drops into the rabbit’s fur and sprinkled some into her bedding. She let me use a wet cloth to remove the puss. It did not reappear, and in two days her eyes returned to normal. A week later, she is active and eating well. The other two rabbits never showed any symptoms at all.

130124 Bunnies

We have bunnies. I love bunnies. Moon loves bunnies. Agent loves bunnies, but doesn't like how they suck all our attention away from her.

Teenagers.

They are only about 9 weeks old. The lion's head on the left is "Dynamite". (Yes, that's a movie reference,) The Lop in the middle is "Sylph", (from a computer game).. The Lop on the lower right is referred to as "boy bunny", because the other two are female. I don't know if Agent has given it a permanent name it yet. We're going to make a big play area for them, because we love to watch them run around and do silly things. I used to be so cynical about pets, but these little bunnies make me smile.

An oil blend called Purification kills fleas and ticks, so I'm using it on them.

Dog hated the smell, but the bunnies don't act like they mind at all.

130120 Lost a Month

Starting in December, I had a cold, then bronchitis, then Mountain Ceder (Juniper) pollen counts jumped from a rather heavy 800 parts per cubic meter to a wtf 23,000 ppcm. Death could not be so bad as this crap. My sinus' closed completely and I could not stop coughing.

Today, I told my sister in WY how funny it was that a not-so-serious cold/flu/ceder fever feels worse than a death-dealing disease. Then, she told me that a couple weeks ago, her friend had died after a bout with the flu. Oops! Then my sixty-two year old sister told me that her friend was pushing ninety. We agreed to keep in touch more regularly.
